Pezula Spa has been named one of 15 Top Overseas Hotel Spas by the Condé Nast Traveller (UK) Readers' Travel Awards 2007. The spa at Pezula Resort Hotel in Knysna is the only spa in Africa to have made the list which was published in the September issue of the magazine.
Last week Pezula Spa received the highest possible accolade from the local national health and beauty industry when it was awarded Destination Spa of the Year in the Shape Magazine/ Professional Beauty Awards. This tribute came hot on the heels of being named Best Resort Hotel Spa in South Africa by Les Nouvelles Esthétiques in June.
In the Readers' Travel Awards readers are asked to choose the best that the travel world has to offer and rate their choices according to various criteria, such as service and value for money.
The Shape Magazine/ Professional Beauty Awards were launched in August 2005 to recognise excellence in the professional beauty industry and provide recognition for salon and spa owners from their peers in the industry.
Shape Magazine Beauty Editor, Elsa Kruger, visited Pezula Spa as a mystery judge to assess the staff, service, treatments and facilities. Says Kruger: "This is the first year that Shape Magazine has been involved in the awards. We inserted nomination forms into the magazine so that our readers could have their say. The forms were returned to Professional Beauty who then drew up a list of finalists who were visited by mystery judges. I gave Pezula a score of 94 out of a total of 100 points. It is a well-deserving winner - from the overwhelming friendliness of their staff, the professionalism of their therapists and their comprehensive range of treatments, this spa is a haven of tranquility and good taste. And the hotel accommodation blew me away - it is world class."
In June Pezula Spa was named Best Resort Hotel Spa in South Africa by Les Nouvelles Esthétiques Magazine for the second time. The awards are presented in association with Les Nouvelles Esthétiques Paris and were initiated three years ago to acknowledge and honour the superb world-class spas in South Africa. They are judged in five categories by a number of respected independent industry professionals including members and heads of international skincare associations, professional spa consultants and media professionals.

"Pezula Spa is an important drawcard for our hotel and we are very pleased that it is receiving so much attention locally and internationally. We knew when we built the spa that we had something very special here and it is very pleasing to have the dedication and professionalism of our staff and facilities acknowledged worldwide by guests as well as others in the industry."
Pezula Spa boasts nine therapy rooms, a sauna and steam room, 12m heated indoor pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, nail bar, hair salon and post-treatment room with heated, vibrating water beds. It offers a comprehensive range of treatments and therapies from exotic scrubs and wraps to thirteen different massage options and complete beauty treatments, combining natural treatments with the most technologically advanced equipment. Last year a range of exclusive spa therapy treatment products was developed for the spa using ingredients garnered from the natural fynbos vegetation of the Western Cape.
Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa opened in February 2005 and is situated on the Eastern Head of Knysna on South Africa's scenic Garden Route. The hotel has 78 luxury suites and is known for its exquisite location, gourmet restaurant - Zachary's - and variety of activities including spa, golf, tennis, horse riding, canoeing, hiking, nature trails, birding and beach activities.
